Canada Post Update: Job action avoided as agreement was reached

Canada Post and CUPW reached an agreement late last night, bringing an end to the uncertainty around a possible mail disruption. Canadians can now ship and mail with confidence.

According to the CBC the two parties were in discussions around the clock at the request of a special mediator appointed last Friday.

As of July 7th, Canada Post has extended the lockout deadline to Monday July 11th and is prepared to submit to binding arbitration at the request of the federal Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour.  According to the CUWP website, this offer to submit to arbitration was declined by the union. A new study was completed this year by the market research and strategic consulting firm InfoTrends, entitled Direct Marketing Production Printing & Value-Added Services: A Strategy for Growth.
